For the uninitiated, the square, white “i” icon that you see all over your Apple Watch is actually just called “glances”. When you swipe it upwards on the display, you get more of the info you want. You can tap on it to get basic information like battery level or time, or if you tap on it long enough so that the “i” changes to a “plus”, you get additional details like your complete calendar, your notes, your lists, and more.
For the uninitiated, the “i” icon on Apple Watch faces resembles a double-ended arrow. To the average consumer, it appears as a simple visual cue indicating the current time. But to those who know a bit about the gadget, it’s a secret. The “i” icon is a subtle way of indicating a new feature—usually a new watch face—has been installed.
If you are an Apple Watch user, you are likely familiar with the “i” icon on your watch face. If you are using Apple Watch Series 4, you will notice that the i appears as a horizontal line. But is this just a cosmetic change or does it have a functional purpose?
Despite the fact that the Apple Watch is one of the most popular smartwatches on the market, we don’t have as much information as we’d want. Sure, there are reviews and information on the Apple Watch’s specs, but there aren’t as many comprehensive descriptions of the Apple Watch’s capabilities.
This article describes one of the Apple Watch’s functionalities, the I symbol in particular. Let’s get this party started.
What does the I symbol on Apple Watch mean?
The circular I in the corner of your Apple Watch screen stands for “Information,” and it’s used to pair or re-pair an Apple Watch with an iPhone.
Apple goods aren’t the only ones with a I within a circle. It’s a popular symbol that denotes a location where you may obtain additional information for a variety of software tasks.
If you touch on the I icon, you’ll receive additional information about that function.
The I icon may be seen on all Apple Watch and watchOS models.
On the Apple Watch, where is the I icon?
When you buy a new Apple Watch and begin the pairing process, you’ll see a Start Pairing button on the side that, when pressed, initiates the automated pairing procedure.
You’ll also see a tiny circle with the I symbol within. If the automated pairing procedure fails for any reason, touch on that symbol to be directed to the manual pairing process.
If you use the automated pairing method, you’ll notice a bubble with scannable dots in the bottom-right corner, as well as the I icon in the bottom-right corner below the bubble.
Note: The circle of dots is Apple’s sophisticated, proprietary QR code, which when scanned sends information from the Apple Watch to the phone.
Apart from providing more comprehensive information about a function, the I icon may be used in a variety of ways. We’ll go through each of these functions in detail here:
Using the I icon, manually unpair your Apple Watch:
If you need to unpair your Apple Watch, follow these instructions:
- On your Apple Watch, open the Settings app.
- Select General.
- Reset by pressing the Reset button.
- Erase All Content and Settings is the option.
- Now, on your iPhone, open the Watch app.
- Select the My Watch option from the drop-down menu.
- Tap on the watch you’d want to disconnect.
- Next to the watch you’ve chosen, tap the I symbol.
- Unpair Apple Watch is the first option.
- When asked, confirm.
Using the I symbol, manually pair your Apple Watch:
The procedure of pairing your Apple Watch is simple and takes just a few minutes.
- Follow the on-screen steps, including choosing your language, until you reach the page where the Start Pairing button appears.
- Now, beneath the box where it attempts to read the Bubble QR code, hit Pair Apple Watch Manually on your iPhone.
- Tap the I symbol on your Apple Watch now.
- Enter the numbers displayed on your Apple Watch into your iPhone when asked.
This will connect the watch with the phone manually. If the watch or iPhone continues to disconnect or you have other difficulties, there may be a problem with the watch or iPhone that has to be addressed.
