If you can’t get enough of gaming, then 2025’s going to be a dream year for you! Over the next 12 months, we’re expecting some of the biggest titles so far this decade to hit the shelves, which will more than make up for a disappointing 2024.
Ok, so there have been a few unexpected delays. Obsidian Entertainment’s Avowed won’t be dropping until mid-Feb and we’re still eagerly awaiting a potential release date for Grand Theft Auto 6. Despite this, there’s still a whole calendar year of massive titles to look forward to across PC, consoles like the PS5 and Xbox One, Switch and mobile platforms.
With the latest installments in iconic franchises on the horizon and some pretty intriguing new games lined up for release, let’s take a closer look at the most eagerly-anticipated games in 2025.
Titles Still Worth your While
Admittedly, there may be several months to go before you can get your hands on the upcoming gems of 2025. Fear not, though, intrepid player! There’s still plenty of gripping content to be found among the more well-established titles that will tide you over before release day comes around.
Baldur’s Gate and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, both released in 2023, remain some of the strongest games of the decade, so now’s the perfect time to try them out or dive back into them.
If you’re looking for a diverse gaming experience, check out the iGaming and play-to-earn sectors (P2E). iGaming, which includes online casino platforms, slots, poker and sports betting, is a sector that’s been booming in popularity for a while and is accessible for all experience levels. For example, online slots are lightweight and great for beginners as they are easy to play. Meanwhile, digital versions of table games like blackjack increase the strategic challenge.
On the Game-Fi side of things, we’ve seen the quality of P2E and NFT-based games increase throughout 2024. Web3 experiences like Illuvium provide an immersive take on the genre, while even industry giants like Ubisoft have gotten on board with the release of their first NFT-powered PvP tactical RPG, Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles.
For mobile gamers, why not revisit Genshin Impact? Sure, it’s a few years old by now, which practically makes it a fossil in gaming terms, but consistent updates that expand the gaming universe means this AAA mobile favorite still delivers here in 2025.
Finest Games for 2025
We won’t be talking about all of the games expected to hit the shelves this year, as we simply wouldn’t be able to cover them all! In the first quarter of 2025 alone, there are over 50 titles set to launch. Saying that, though, we’re sure you’ll agree with our top picks
Civilization VII
Firaxis Games – PC, PS4-5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch
This legendary RTS has kept players hooked for 30 years with its Risk-esque gameplay. 2025’s edition will see the fiendishly challenging game split into three ages: Antiquity, Exploration and Modern, with players able to select new civilizations for each age.

Avowed
Obsidian Entertainment – PC, Xbox Series
Avowed marks Obsidian’s first entry into the mythical RPG genre and we have high hopes for this game. With a great track record that includes The Outer Worlds and Fallout: New Vegas, the studio’s on a roll. This epic-looking take on Dungeons & Dragons will be a must-play in 2025.
Expected: February 18
Assassins Creed Shadows
Ubisoft – PC, PS5, Xbox Series
For the series’ latest release, Assassins Creed Shadows, it looks like Ubisoft is keen to capitalize on the trend for all things Japanese. Set in the Edo period of Japan, Shadows follows Naoe, a female ninja, and Yasuke, an African samurai. This is the first time the series has ventured into the Far East, so we can’t wait to get stuck into the gameplay.

Grand Theft Auto 6
Rockstar Games – PS5, Xbox Series
It’s been 10 long years since a new entry of the GTA series came along, and what a decade that has been. Grand Theft Auto V still remains one of the most popular video games of all-time, so the pressure is on Rockstar to deliver a worthy follow-up. From what we’ve found out so far, GTA 6 looks set to tick all the boxes.
